Last year I realized how much of a to-go cup problem I had. 
One day I was cleaning out my car and...I don’t even want to tell you how many I found but let’s just say it opened my eyes to a small taste of a BIG problem. 😳🤭
I do my very best to try to remember to keep a clean thermos with me at all times now! Sometimes my coffee shop visits are super spontaneous so making sure to keep it in my purse makes it that much easier! 
I recently got this awesome @hydroflask and let me tell you, I am in LOVE 😍 I kid you not, my beverages stay hot in this for hours. That alone makes me want to always have it with me cause I like my coffee hot yo! 🔥
But more seriously though, did you know that if you buy just one cup of coffee or tea in a disposable cup every day, you’ll end up creating about 23 lbs of waste in one year.
WHAT?!?! 😵🤢🤯 Read that and tell me you don’t want to make a change. I bet you can’t. ☕️♻️🌏🌱

Dinner tonight was a salad of whatever I could find at home! 
Organic mixed greens + turmeric quinoa + cucumber + shaved purple carrot + pomegranate seeds + sunflower seeds with a really simple evoo/balsamic dressing!

As a health coach I’ve tried it all and ultimately I realized it’s not for me. I was hungry all the time and my digestion was terrible.
Eating land animals is not the problem. It is where that meat is coming from that has become the problem. There are amazing benefits to organic, grass fed, sustainably farmed meat.

Healing takes time. Healing is not linear. Healing comes in waves. ✨
When those waves come and hit the rocks, allow yourself to feel it. It’s hard and it’s messy and if you’re anything like me, your first instinct is to isolate and disconnect yourself. I try to distract myself in any way possible. I’ll watch a movie, read, browse blogs, clean, color, etc.: all the while telling myself that I am doing these things as “self care”. Don’t get me wrong, these are all things that I have done and continue to do as self care rituals BUT when I truly want to do something for “self care” I am doing it knowingly and with the intention of enjoying that action! ✨
On those days when the waves are hitting a little harder, those same actions can become distractions from important feelings that need to be acknowledged. 
What I mean by that is that self care comes in many forms. Some days it means reading to feed your mind or cleaning to feed your love for a clean space. We all have our favorite things that we like to do for ourselves but sometimes when you’re having a rough day and don’t know what to do about it, you’ll default to doing some of these favorite things.
You’ll recognize this as soon as you notice that whatever you’re doing is feeling more like a chore rather than a treat. Take this moment to acknowledge how you’re feeling. You don’t necessarily have to do anything about that feeling. Just recognize it, feel it, and remind yourself:
You are still healing. ✨🌻

This is my personalized, bio-individualized food freedom! {check out my last post} I made leg of lamb this weekend in my pressure cooker and it came out so tender and flavorful!  AND it’s even better when I conveniently take a serving from my freezer stash, reheat it in the oven, and it crisps up a little bit! 😍 I’ve been eating some of it every day this week!  Today it’s over baby greens with red radish and kohlrabi and topped with a homemade creamy dressing and sea salt flakes. 😋 This is exactly what I wanted, tasted delicious, and makes my body feel good!  Boom! 💥 👊🏼 What was your feel-good lunch?

If I asked you if you feel deprived or overly restricted in your food choices, what would you say?  I talk with a lot of people who say they aren’t feeling deprived, but then they tell me they are using a food tracker, bored with or unhappy about their food choices,  and/or experiencing binges.

If you’re experiencing any of these things, you’re likely not really fully listening to your body.  Let me explain: If you’re always tracking your food, you may think you’re eating what you want, but you’re likely fitting it within a “box” determined by your tracker. How do I know?  I’ve been there and have seen a multitude of clients and friends in the same boat.  Ditch the tracker, give yourself the freedom to listen to your desires, TUNE INTO YOUR BODY, and see what happens. 💁🏼‍♀️
And if you’re binging, it may be because you’re telling yourself you can’t have that food. Gretchen Rubin tells us there are moderators and abstainers. Yep, I agree!  However, you can still be an abstainer and tell yourself you can have something any time you want. For instance, I know I can have dairy if I want it, but I also know it’s going to make me break out, and if I continue eating it, it’ll affect my bowels and my inflammation. It’s simply not worth it to me. So I prefer to abstain, but I haven’t made it an off-limits food.  So I don’t even truly desire it. Does that make sense?  Sure, I love cheese and would eat it if It didn’t cause me troubles, but I also don’t feel restricted by not having it.

Lastly, if you’re feeling bored or unhappy with your food choices, there could be a few things going on. 1) maybe you simply need to experiment with some different combinations and recipes 2) perhaps you need to reconsider the “box” you’ve put yourself in with your diet 3) consider a perspective change, focusing on all the things you can eat and enjoy that make you feel good and not on the things that don’t make you feel good. 4) if you are truly down to only a few foods because everything else causes you some reaction, it’s time to find a good practitioner to help you find the root cause(s). I’d personally love to support you in this process.

I've used this quote for many years in my own personal reflections, but had never shared it in my classes or a group setting. That is until Sunday, when it called to me so clearly that I knew it was time.

Without judgment can you read these words, soak them in,  and have a conversation with yourself about who you are? How you want to live? How you want to love? And what you can let go of?

When I first came across these words I felt deep guilt that I wasn't being my best self. After many years I now see that if I can soften into these ideas, I can let go of the shame and feelings of inadequacy, and instead let these words be my pilot light.

I will never be perfect, but what I can be is someone who seeks to be my most authentic self. Now I welcome the time to listen, reflect, and adjust course as needed.

Great discussion on the fundamentals of nutrition and clean eating with the founders of @sakaralife and celebrity nutritionist Keri Glassman @nutritiouslifeofficial. They talked about how the ketogenic diet which is a very low-carb diet plan is trending right now. Essentially the keto diet works by “tricking” the body into thinking it is fasting, through a strict elimination of glucose that is found in carbohydrate foods. At the core of the Ketogenic is severely restricting intake of all or most foods with sugar and starch (carbohydrates). As with any diet there are pros and cons.
