This week, we get to pray together for the Tisdale family.

Dan and Na Tisdale have served in Thailand since 1999. Both Dan and Na are 1999 graduates of Southern California Seminary. They serve with Global Recordings Network to record and distribute the Gospel message in the many heart languages of those who do not have the Scripture in a form they can access. Pray that these gospel recordings would indeed turn many hearts to Jesus. Dan and Na’s passion and vision is “for every Thai person to have the opportunity to say, 'Yes' to Jesus.” When they first left to serve in Thailand, their son Daniel was only 7 months old. Now he’s a high school graduate, applying to colleges in the United States. Together they adopted Ty, who is 5 ½ years old. Please pray that God’s peace, joy, wisdom and strength would be theirs to be able to serve Him faithfully.

This month, Pastor Jeremiah brings us his Stewardship series. Stewardship is about being thankful and having the proper perspective on material possessions, including our money. Join us Sunday at 10:45 as we put money in its place and learn to be good stewards of our time, talent, and treasure.

Is there a catfish in your codfish tank?

All things work together for good . . . even the challenging people and circumstances in our lives. Pastor Jeremiah related this story on Sunday: "A number of years back, the codfish industry on the northeast coast of the US had a problem. The fresher the fish, the better, but how could they keep the codfish fresh while they transported them across the country? When they froze the fish they lost too much flavor. When they transported them live in tanks filled with saltwater, the fish got soft and mushy.

Finally, they found a solution. They placed catfish in the tanks. Catfish are a natural enemy of codfish, so the catfish would chase them around the tanks all the time they were being transported. The cod now arrived in better condition than ever." Though the catfish were helpful for keeping the cod healthy, they weren't desired by the cod. When challenges show up in our lives, we have to choose: Do we trust God and boldly walk forward in faith, or do we shrink back in fear? #thursdaythought

In his New Year's message on Sunday, Pastor Jeremiah issued three challenges for 2018: "Trust God," "Be Grateful," and "Live Gritty." He explained gritty living as not waiting for things to come to us, but going after them . . . being active rather than passive . . . persevering against all odds. You can hear (or re-listen to) his whole inspiring message right here:  https://vimeo.com/250465767

This deer made sure my partner and I were walking in the opposite direction from the herd during our morning perimeter check a few days ago. I love the fact that I get to see wildlife everyday at work... a nice change from the thick glass and steel, and windowless spaces I’ve worked in for years prior to this job. #corrections #lawenforcement #alpineCA

Did you hear the "cake story" in Pastor Jeremiah's message last weekend? What a wonderfully simple explanation of Romans 8:28 . . . God working all things together for good.
Pastor Jeremiah quoted Randy Alcorn, "When I was young, my mother used to bake delicious cakes. Before she made a cake, she would lay out each one of the ingredients on the kitchen counter. One day I decided to try an experiment. One by one I tasted each one of the individual ingredients to a chocolate cake. Think about it. Have you ever tasted baking powder? How about baking soda? The flour was horribly bland and I won’t try to describe the raw egg. Even the “semi-sweet” chocolate tasted terribly bitter compared to the sweet milk chocolate I was used to eating. To sum it up, almost everything that goes into a cake tastes terrible by itself. The striking thing was that when my mother mixed it all together in the right amounts, placed it in the oven, and then laid it out to cool, an amazing metamorphosis took place. The cake was delicious. Isn’t that something? While the individual ingredients tasted terrible, the final product tasted terrific! If I would have judged the whole cake on the basis of the individual ingredients, I would never have believed it could be good." If you missed being a part of a small group last year, don’t miss out getting into a group this year. Small groups are awesome! Whether for spiritual growth, a community of people to come alongside you in the good times and bad, or you are just looking for that little extra encouragement throughout your week, a small group is perfect for that.

This week we are praying together for Sara Wade.

Sara Wade has served with SEND International since 2006. After serving in Ukraine for 10 years, Sara will be returning to the field to work with the Buryat in Ulan-Ude, in Siberia. The Buryat are a unique culture of Mongolian decent that practice Buddhism and Shamanism. There are no Buryat churches and there is no translation of the Bible in the Buryat language. Sara will join a team in Siberia who are diligently working on reaching the Buryat for Christ. They will build relationships through outreach ministries and learning the culture. One of these outreach opportunities is an English club for college students, which Sara will help facilitate. The English club allows students to study the Word of God in a safe environment with good conversation. For most students, this will the first time they will have access to the Bible. Pray for Sara as she makes this transition to a new country and ministry.

Join us at 10am today as Pastor Jeremiah reminds us of this encouraging promise - a perfect scripture for the New Year. “It’s the promise that morphs us into resilient, cheerful people, whatever our temperament. It’s God’s darkroom in which negatives become positives. It’s His situation'reversal machine in which heartaches are changed into hallelujahs. It is the foundation of hope and a fountainhead of confidence. Even our failures can become enriching and our sins can be redeemed." - Robert J. Morgan

Please pray with us this week for the Nicholls family

Michael and Kelly Nicholls serve as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators in the Mara Region of Tanzania in East Africa, training and assisting nationals in Bible translation. Michael is from Australia and spent seven years working with Shadow Mountain’s High School Ministries, graduating from Southern California Seminary in 2003. Kelly grew up at SMCC and graduated from Christian High. Michael and Kelly have three children, Luke, Malia, and Elliot. Michael is the Translation Advisor for the Kwaya language team, while Kelly provides member care and is in charge of hospitality for the frequent guests to the project, as well as teaching in the learning center for missionary kids. Political changes in Tanzania combined with organizational changes have made their work more complicated. Pray for wisdom and direction for present decisions and future planning for the project, and for wisdom for them as parents of missionary kids.

Have a wonderful Christmas Day!  As Corrie Ten Boom once said, "Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world. The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life."
